“Special Interests” – Jack Abramoff Works for Biz & ACLU Speaks For the People
Commentary by Linda Zoblotsky / Dallas, TX

Scott McClellan: “The ACLU -- this is one of the special interest groups that Democrats in the Senate are trying to appease because they want to weaken and undermine the Patriot Act.”
AND it is fair to say, Jack Abramoff is one of the “special interest” representatives that Elected Officials have been working to appease because they want to weaken and undermine social programs and line the pockets of corporate interests. The Bush Administration celebrates freedom and democracy and elections in Iraq, while throwing insults in the wind, when speaking of the AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union. Just as the Iraqi people recently held a day of elections with little noted violence, American people cooperate and support the ACLU and their Democratic or Republican officials in Congress. Why does the Bush administration celebrate freedom and democracy and elections in Iraq, but then justify their own illegal actions by deriding a “special interest” group, which focuses on the rights of the individual? Freedom of Speech and Right to one’s privacy is one of the items of special interest to Liberals, Progressives, as well as true Conservatives.

Americans support the work of the government to protect us, within reason. A court ordered warrant provides the prosecution/government/courts with a record of the surveillance being performed, as well as a reason for the request of special surveillance. Members of the Nixon Administration went to jail as a result of the wiretapping of American citizens - Watergate.
Members of The AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union and Americans support the Congress members, they have elected to represent their security at home from a run-away administration – run-away from students left behind, as math and science studies are declining; run- away from the disaster left in the Gulf by the hurricanes, and run-away from social programs to rebuild the lives of the poor in this country and run-away from the rebuilding of Iraq as the Washington Post reported today that a good portion of the rebuilding appropriations have gone to security and developing Iraq’s oil fields. And the American people see over and over the President turning a blind eye away from aiding Americans in need and then the President turns an aggressive ear towards eavesdropping, torture and future war in Iran and Syria. The Israeli and German press has reported that Porter Goss has spoken to the Turkish government and rallied support for a possible strike on Iran.

The administration might accuse me of being a writer who leaks classified information on U.S. plans of aggression in Iran and Syria. President Bush, in the 2000 Presidential debates, you spoke of a humble foreign policy. After the Enron scandal, you spoke about corporate responsibility. The American people and their representatives will continue to speak out against a president who insists on behaving above the law.

“Any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires - a wiretap requires a court order.” George W. Bush, April 20, 2004, Buffalo, NY

President Bush, the American people are paying your salary to be not only Commander-in-Chief of the military, but to be the “compassionate-conservative” leader, you preached about in your 2000 campaign
