Letter to Congressman Shays from Linda Z [NYC & TX]

I live in both Texas and New York City and I am a supporter of Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and everything that he stands for. I am aware that Congressman Kucinich is calling for an investigation into the missing $9 billion from Iraqi funds, possibly transferred to government ministries, which lacked financial controls, security, communications and adequate staff. The U.S. officials relied on Iraqi audit agencies to account for the funds, but those agencies were not even functioning when the funds were transferred between October 2003 and June 2004, according to an audit by a special U.S. inspector general.

The findings were released Sunday by Stuart Bowen Jr., special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction. Bowen issued several reports on the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), the U.S. occupation government that ruled Iraq from June 2003 to June 2004. I was unemployed during most of 2003 and 2004. I lost a good job and I still had to pay taxes. That $9 billion dollars should be found used for such pro-life necessities, as housing, shelter and food, as well as education, job training and health care and then reparations to the Iraqi people, especially to those who lost their homes from the showers of the U.S. bombs. Hold the U.S. government accountable for the missing $9 billion dollars and please investigate how this money was lost. So far, $300 billion dollars of U.S. tax-payer funds have been spent on a war against a people who did not attack us. We have destroyed homes in Fallujah, but at least those people were able to vote for over 100 candidates who could not campaign due to the unpredictable violence that has been unleashed on their country under the U.S. occupation.

It is time to hold our government accountable for spending on programs needed here at home. It is time to bring our troops home because we have weapons of mass destruction here in the U.S. - poverty. It is time for the U.S. Government to attend Debtors Anonymous (D.A.) and account for the missing $9 billion dollars.
