"Letter to the Editor" by Linda Z from Texas

We need a president who will defend the Constitution. The anti-war activists in this country, of which I am proud to be included, have asked someone in the Congress to take the lead in stopping the Bush Administration's aggression against the people of The Middle East. Dennis Kucinich listened. In April of this year Dennis Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney. In the first Democratic Debate, Dennis Kucinich said: "This country was taken into war (against Iraq) based on lies." Those of us who support Dennis Kucinich, Impeachment and who are against the war believe that the war against the people of Iraq is based on lies. The Bush administration claimed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and that we had to take the action of a "preemptive war" against Iraq. If the war against Iraq was preemptive, to prevent Saddam from using his weapons of mass destruction against us, wouldn't Saddam have used his weapons of mass destruction anyway against the United States or the United States military to protect himself (God Forbid)?

"Letter to Paul Krugman" from Linda Z in Texas
Thank you for your article, LIES, SIGHS and POLITICS. I am hoping that you will write a "Part Two". This is the summer of 2007 and the primaries are 6 months down the road.
I believe that the mainstream media is cheating voters out of the opportunity to learn about ALL of the candidates, when less than half the story is told about less than half of the people on the great debate stage.

You spoke about Mitt Romney's gaff about how we ended up in Iraq. Dennis Kucinich is trying to point out how we actually did end up in Iraq. A Democratic Senate authorized President Bush the power to use military might against Iraq after the U.N. inspectors finished their work finding those weapons of mass destruction. The Senate in 2002 did not perform a checks and balances on the executive branch and write an alternative bill calling for support for the U.N. inspectors to do their job. Dennis Kucinich pointed out in the debate with Joe Biden and Mike Gravel on Iraq that a Democratic Senate in 2002 re-authorized the war over and over with war appropriations, 100-0, 98-2 and on and on. He brought a list of those roll calls to the debates.

If you and the American people believe that we should withdraw from Iraq then Dennis Kucinich's HR 1234 deserves every bit as much coverage as you gave to Barack Obama on his healthcare bill.

And speaking of healthcare, why not cover the full spectrum of solutions being offered, such as Universal Healthcare, HR 676, as written by Dennis Kucinich and John Conyers, a single payer healthcare plan. Dennis Kucinich has spoken about this legislation on the presidential campaign trail and he and John Conyers already wrote the bill. Obama Barack and John Edwards are talking about plans that still cost the consumer high premiums because the insurance companies need to make a profit. What Dennis Kucinich and John Conyers are couragous to consider in this compassionate healthcare plan is that even Americans with insurance are finding once they become sick or injured, how little their insurance covers and how much they are left paying and often these insured people will have to file for bankruptcy.

Universal Healthcare would take 10 years to impliment. Here is the proposed funding in the legislation: "Maintaining current federal and state funding of existing health care programs. A modest payroll tax on all employers of 3.3%. A 5% health tax on the top 5% of income earners. A small tax on stock and bond transfers. Closing corporate tax loop-holes, repealing the Bush tax cut."

This legislation proposes to use the laready existing Medicare program. This program will cover all medically necessary services, including primary care, in patient care, outpatient care, emergency care, prescription drugs, durable medical equipment, long term care, mental health services, dentistry, eye care, chiropractic, and substance abuse treatment. Patients have their choice of physicians, providers, hospitals, clinics and practices.

I saw you on the Colbert show say that you read press conferences, you don't watch them because they are boring. Labor Unions and Doctors lend their support to Universal Healthcare. We have a presidential candidate who is proposing a real life solution for unisured Americans and under-insured Americans. Now is the time for the mainstream press to report on legislation that benefits mainstream America. An American who supports the Constitution and Freedom of the Press and asking for the Press to please inform us all.
