This is a political rant so if you care to delete I won’t mind, but I hope you would at least glance at it. Ok so I have laid off the political emails since Herr Bush lied his way into the presidency. Something is starting to develop that is generally offensive and disgusting to me and I want to be sure everyone is aware of it. This evening a faction of the ultra right wing christianist American Taliban is hosting a simulcast television event called JUSTICE SUNDAY, where they are going to try to portray the fact the Democrats have filibustered 5 % of bushes judge nominees as an attack on all Christians. It is being held in a mega church in Kentucky and being shown on TV screens in churches all over America and also I believe it will be broadcast on TV. What is truly frightening about this is that we now openly have a group of religious extremists whose goal is to remake America into a theology instead of a democracy espousing political agendas. Why are these people still retaining their tax exempt status? If you know anything about any of the groups involved with this event, you know they hate anyone who does not subscribe to their narrow minded literal interpretation of the Old Testament. They also despise gay people, advocate physical punishment as a means of discipline kids, and they were the ones driving the entire Terry Schiavo mess. I could go on with many more comments about the way they have perverted religion in order to excise control over people’s behaviors and insert themselves into our lives, but I think you get my drift.
Why this is so important you may ask, let’s see:
1) They will actively put forth the argument that all Democrats are anti-religion and want to ban the bible (We saw the repugnicans sending out those letters during the fall presidential campaign).
2) They are influencing elected officials to make statements that could be construed to advocate violence against the judiciary. This could easily be interpreted to mean that they are inciting domestic terrorism. See Tom Delay and the senator from Texass Cornwyn or whatever his name is and Bill Frist as well. Powerful people saying that judges, MOST OF THEM REPUBLICAN APPOINTEES, will pay the price for their decisions. [See Timothy McVeigh]
We now have a group of extremist christianists uniting with a group of right wing dominionists (the neo cons) attacking the core values of America to benefit a few people. These people that would benefit are the ultra wealthy and these right wing groups. If this disgusts you as much as it does me, please make your voice heard by contacting your elected officials and letting them know your feelings about this and write letters to newspapers. Take part in legal action being organized by move on and other progressive groups. If you don’t stand up to these people who knows what America may become. Remember this, there are 44 dems in the senate and 55 repugs and one indy. More repugs right? The 44 dems represent a clear majority of the American population, yet we are having policy being dictated to us by a minority. Think about it. . . . .
